[ Jesus Comforts His Disciples ] “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s [Abba’s] house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3; emphasis mine)
Abba’s House of Welcome (the refugee portion of Abba’s House) would like to introduce our board members to all of you following, supporting, and praying for our ministry. We currently have three people who have agreed to serve on our board. Today, we introduce to you Cindy Wu of Houston, TX.
Cindy M. Wu holds an M.A. Religion from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She has served in church-planting contexts in the United States, Mexico, and East Asia. She co-authored Our Global Families: Christians Embracing a Common Identity in a Changing World (Baker Academic, 2015) with Todd M. Johnson, director of the Center for the Study of Global Christianity. Cindy is a research associate with the Center and one of the editorial assistants on the World Christian Encyclopedia, 3rd ed. (2020). She enjoys reading and writing about refugees, and is currently writing a workbook calling Christians to embrace the refugees in their midst, as well as a book about Houston’s refugee history. As much as Cindy enjoys writing and volunteering with refugees, her main job in this season of life is part-time homeschooling her three children.
Cindy was drawn to the mission of Abba’s House to provide a “soft landing” for refugees. She was also attracted to the faith and vision of Michael and Julie Meissner, leaders after God’s own heart: for the marginalized, the displaced, the persecuted. She feels honored to serve on the board and prays that Abba’s House will indeed be a refuge for refugees.
We are beyond delighted to have Cindy joining our team and serving alongside us as we build and develop Abba’s House of Welcome! To learn more about Cindy and the work she is doing with refugees, check out her Facebook page linked above.
If you are looking to give to a charitable organization as 2016 comes to a close, would you consider giving to Abba’s House so that we can care for “the least of these” among us?
